Surah Ut Taghabuun

The title of Surah Ut-Taghabuun has been derived from Verse 9, meaning “The Fraudulent”. It was revealed upon the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) in the city of Madina Shareef.

The word “Taghabuun” means getting profit or causing loss through fraud. Religious scholars say that this word had its route in “GHABUN” which means fraud or giving loss to a person without his knowledge.

Secretly stealing property or money of an owner or bringing such secret reduction in profits of the owner in the deal by cheating a person in secret or concealed manners is “Taghabuun”.

In this Surah, the term “Taghabuun” describes the situation in which a person indulges in frauds, misdeeds, sinfulness and wrong actions by cheating. Such fraudulent person will find himself in a great loss on the Day of Judgement. “Taghabuun” is also the day of measuring the pious/sinful deeds in this world. Therefore, everyone has to account for their deeds (good or bad) on the Day of Judgement.

The love of wives, children and wealth should not make the man so indulged in the worldly life for its temporary attractions. Love of Allah (S.W.T) and respect of our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) should be above all these considerations.

On the Day of Judgement, everyone will be present in front of Allah (S.W.T) in the Divine assembly, where good and bad acts will be accredited accordingly. Those who believe in Allah (S.W.T) and remain pious will be taken to the Paradise of great blissfulness for achieving supreme triumph.

“Taghabuun” must be taken by everybody as a deed to be primarily questioned. Therefore, everyone should remain pious, straightforward and righteous in the life of this world as a good citizen of a peaceful society. We should strive to become pious in order to reap the rewards in the Hereafter.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (R.A) narrated that the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) once said “Allah (S.W.T) does not look at your appearance or your possessions; but He (S.W.T) looks at your heart and your deeds.”
